Book Review of Wynken, Blynken, and Nod
I read the book Wynken, Blynken and Nod to my granddaughter Bailey Rose this week. It is about three Bunny Rabbits that sailed into the star lite skies all night long in a wooden shoe. The old Moon speaks with them in the dew. Bailey got a kick out of the book when we got to the end to find out that it was a dream of a child's. The story was written by Eugene W. Field on March 9, 1889. "The little story came to me as I was riding home on the streetcars," he once said. He said, "I sat up in bed and wrote out the lullaby as it now appears, with the exception that I first wrote, 'Into a sea of blue,' and this line I changed to 'Into a sea of dew.'" The original story was written on brown wrapping paper. The book we read was illustrated by David McPhail, who did a fine job of taking your imagination into the a child's dream. Bailey Rose went for her nap with a smile on her face and a sparkle in her eyes with the thoughts and pictures of the book fresh in her mind. As I kissed her and tucked her in bed, I knew she was going to sleep with a child's dream. Reading to children before a nap or at bed time has a calming effect and helps stay a child's mind on a story and pictures they seen. Sometimes I read two books to Bailey Rose before she goes to sleep, at her request. Many times she will sit in bed and look at the pictures telling her the story again before she closes her eyes and falls asleep. Bailey Rose is 3! First Published on Qassia

Contributor's Note
Read to a child and they will be smarter. This was cute, one day Bailey Rose was sitting on the couch looking at the pages of a book we had just read, and she was trying to tell the story to herself, then she said out loud, "I can't read!" She has a desire to read and knows some written words already and will point them out to me.
